National Tree day Activity Book

I created this National Tree Day Activity Book for kids. Apart from designing and illustrating the book, I also devised all of the activities and wrote the majority of the copy within it.

The activity book process included:

  • Creating illustrations in Adobe Procreate

  • Fine-tuning illustrations and layout in Photoshop

  • Writing copy

  • Designing the booklet and inserting copy in InDesign

  • Exporting print and digital versions

  • Creation of a black and white version, to be more printer-friendly for those at home

  • Creating all the promotional materials for the activity book, including social media, website banners and thumbnails.

Now for the good news - book illustrations

Planet Ark published a book with Penguin Random House, for which I contributed around 30-40 illustrations and graphics. Now for the Good News was nominated for the Eve Pownall Notable Book Award (2025) by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Pages reproduced with permission.

Note: Cover illustration/design by Penguin Random House.

fashion through the ages

As part of a National Recycling Week resource for schools, I was asked to put together some illustrations of clothing styles throughout different time periods, to help show the ways that various world events/processes (eg. the industrial revolution, globalisation, etc.) have impacted on clothing production methods and fashion trends.

Early Learners’ activity book

After my general activity book for National Tree Day was a success with teachers, parents and children, the following year I created an option for early learners (preschool-aged kids). As with my previous activity book, apart from the design and illustration, I also devised all of the activities and wrote the copy.

The early learners’ activity book process included:

  • Creating illustrations in Adobe Procreate

  • Fine-tuning illustrations and layout in Photoshop

  • Writing copy

  • Designing the booklet and inserting copy in InDesign

  • Exporting print and digital versions

  • Creation of a black and white version, to be more printer-friendly for those at home

  • Creating all the promotional materials for the activity book, including social media, website banners and thumbnails.

Threatened Species Carousels

I was asked to design and illustrate a series of social media carousels for National Tree Day, featuring threatened plant and animal species.

Note: for further examples of my illustrations for social media, visit the Digital Work (social media) section of my portfolio.

RECYCLED ARTS & CRAFTS GUIDE

As part of a student resource for National Recycling Week, I illustrated the steps involved in certain recycled arts and crafts projects. I also designed the guide itself, including the icons and layout.

tree talk magazine illustrations

I created some illustrations of native Australian plants with their indigenous names for the 2023 edition of TreeTalk magazine (which I also design), along with some social media tiles to help with promotion. In TreeTalk I often incorporate my illustrations within the overall design, so that it has a mix of digital graphics and hand-drawn elements (such as the map of Australia, shown here).
